not taking the necessary steps to carry

out the orders of his predecessors, but

he is satisfied that there are no

reasonable grounds for that supposition.

Reports on the measures taken to stamp and

out the Mui Tsai custom in Hong Kong

are received from the Hong Kong

Government every six months. These

reports show that the Hong Kong Government

are taking active steps to carry out

the declared policy of His Majesty's

Government, which in brief is that no

new Mui Tsai shall be created in, or

imported into, Hong Kong, and that

the existing Mui Tsai, who have all

been registered, shall know that

they are free to leave their employers

if they want to, and shall be paid

wages and properly treated.

In

effect, the status of the registered

Mui Tsai in Hong Kong has had any

suggestion of a servile taint removed,

and
